Abstract
874,475. Forming-parts of paper-making machines. SCOTT PAPER CO. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 25, 1957], No. 4881/58. Class 96. Pulp is supplied to the wirecloth of a Fourdrinier papermaking machine e.g. through a long thin conduit 21 with parallel sides, the lower lip 35 being substantially tangential to the breast roll 20, the speeds of the pulp supply and the wire-cloth 22 being preferably the same, but their ratio may be varied to vary the ratio of machine-directional to cross-directional strength of the paper. The breast roll has compartments 28 to 31, the degree of suction in which may be controlled individually through butterfly valves 32. Alternatively, the first compartment 28 may be under pressure to balance that of the oncoming pulp, or a seal 37 may block the openings of the breast roll where the pulp first meets the wire-cloth.
