In a papermaking machine in which the wire (7) runs over a previous table (24), and the forming zone is bounded by the wire and an outlet duct 11 from the headbox, leakage of stock is prevented by walls (27 and 18) forming a chamber (31) into which the edge of the wire projects, and by the supply to this chamber of barrier fluid (water) through the connexion (20). As shown, the table 24 is the cover of a suction box 23.
