Abstract
516,712. Conditioning felts. of paper-making machines. VICKERY, F. W. Aug. 2, 1938, No. 22830. [Class 15 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] A felt conditioner, reciprocating across the felts and adapted to deliver liquid upon a small portion of the width of the felt and remove it by suction, is provided with endless bands between ' the felt and the suction box the principal suction space in which has its ends formed by rollers, friction being exerted by an adjustable member in contact with the felt along a transverse line. The suction, box 6 is mounted on a transverse guide 1, the endless bands 24 passing over wheels 25, 27. The liquid is supplied by a transverse jet 12 to one end of the box which is furnished with two or more rollers 8 in contact with the felt and furnished with sealing-devices 16, 17 whereby, the ends of the rollers being provided with seals, the space between them forms one or more suction spaces. Friction is applied to the felt by rods 22 the ends of which are mounted in eccentrics, and one or more supporting rollers 9 for the felt may be provided. The sealing devices comprise a blade 16 pivoted on a shaft carrying a blade 17; both members are provided with setting-devices outside the box. Spring-influenced members may be provided which press against the blades and clean them as the apparatus is reciprocated ; the seal may also be effected by rubber blades.
