Abstract
623,492. Suction of paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd., and HEYS, R. C. May 3, 1947, No. 11981. [Class 96] [Also in Group XXIX] The suction boxes 2 beneath the wire-cloth 1 of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine are each exhausted by the usual vertical leg 7 to a common suction header and pump, water being drawn off through an adjustable and automatically-regulated double-beat valve 17 to a common pipe 19 leading through a non-return valve to a discharge pump, the pipe 19 being also vented to the suction header; the arrangement avoiding the necessity of the usual barometric legs and low-level seal-pots. The valve 17 is controlled by a diaphragm 26 above which air &c. is supplied through a pipe 30 and needle valve 31, the air &c. being led off at 33 to an outlet 34 controlled by a pad 38 on a lever 39 moved by bellows 37 which respond to the pressure in the discharge pipe of the suctionbox outlet 6, to which the outside of the bellows is connected by a pipe 10, so that a fall in pressure at the outlet 6 opens the valve 17 further. The lever 39 is under adjustable spring pressure at 41, and the valve 17 is prevented from 'hunting' by a spring 45, lever 46 and collar 47. A slide controls the width of the suction-box opening to the wire 1.
