363,161. Preventing back ignition. LACHASSE, L. M., 1, Rue Soyer, Neuillysur-Seine, France. Jan. 8, 1931, No. 737. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1930. [Class 7 (ii).] The hot gases travelling in the reverse direction to the mixture stream are deflected into a closed chamber 4, where they are extinguished through lack of air. The mouth S<1> of the chamber 4 has a diameter equal to, or greater than, the mixture outlet S ; the entrance to the chamber is of venturi form. The chamber may contain a number of heat-conducting baffle plates for cooling the gases therein, and a flame guard formed by a wire-gauze screen 8 may traverse the space between the inner and outer chambers. According to modified constructions, a closed external chamber surrounding the induction pipe is employed ; the upper end of the central mixture conduit may be provided with a gauze screen, or it may be flared outwardly around a centrally-located deflecting cone. In two further constructions described in the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) an outlet pipe leading from the trapping chamber to atmosphere, and housing a non-return valve, is provided ; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
