Abstract

363,349. Arresting flame due to backfiring; spray carburetters. BICHLER, C. H., 21, Rue Baron, Paris. Aug. 12, 1930, No. 24180. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1929. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] Consists in means or arresting flame due to backfiring, and for preventing the induction conduit from being blocked by hoar frost. The means may be situated on the air inlet side of the carburetter, in the carburetter, or between the carburetter and the engine. A casing 1, Fig. 1, is attached to the air inlet 2 of a carburetter and surrounds a central tube 4 which, at its lower end, is provided with a flame-proof scr en 3. In the annular space between tube and casing are arranged annular partitions 5. If a backfire occurs, the flame mainly enters the tube 4. If the screen 3 becomes blocked by frost, the annular spaces provide for the passage of air. In a modification, the ducts are of circular cross section and the tube and partitions are supported by riveted stays. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the upper end of the tube 4 is of funnel shape. In a still further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), perforated annular baffles are secured, in the annular space, alternately to the tube and casing. In Fig. 7, the tube 4 and partitions 9 surround the nozzle 13 of the carburetter, the flame-proof screen being shown at 3. Where multiple carburetters are employed, Fig. 8 (not shown), the suction conduits are connected by a balancing tube.
