S., 466, Narborough Road, Leicester. Sept. 9, 1930, No. 28534/31. [Class 143.] A machine for weighing and dividing plastic substances such as dough comprises means for feeding a quantity of the substance from bulk to a weighing-scale device and means for cutting off and delivering weighed portions, all whilst the substance is under atmospheric pressure only. The dough in a hopper 1 is directed by distributing rollers 128 to a pair of draw rollers 3, 4 which deliver the dough in the form of a ribbon d, to an endless belt 13. The belt carries the ribbon on to a drum 17 pivoted upon a scale beam 18 fulcrumed on knife edges 22. A scraper 128a, arranged between the rollers 128 is provided-with an opening 128b through which the dough may rise to prevent its compression between the upper and lower rollers. When a predetermined weight of dough has passed on to the drum the scale beam rocks and, as described in Specification 362,909, automatically causes a circular knife 38 to rotate and to move across the dough stream to cut off a portion d<1>. The weight of the severed portion rotates the drum 17, and the portion is deposited in a pan 24 pivoted on the opposite arm of the scale beam. The transference of the severed portion causes the scale beam to rock and bring a pan catch 78, pivoted on the scale beam, into engagement with a control rod 59 thereby liberating the pan to discharge the weighed portion and also initiating another cycle of operations as described in Specification 362,909. The conveyer belt 13 is dusted with flour extracted from a container 127 by a blower.
