362,240. Vehicle-axle bearings. PEYINGHAUS, W., Egge, near Volmarstein, Ruhr, Germany. Feb. 9, 1931, No. 4065. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1930. [Class 12 (i).] A vehicle-axle a has a fixed collar b and an axially divided bush d, e, the upper half d having an oil collector f. The bush which is embraced by more than 180‹ by the axle-box c is mounted in an inverted position on the axle and when the axle-box has been slid into position the bush is rotated into its operative position. A semi-annular key g of variable circumferential thickness is inserted between the axle-box c and the collector f and is held in position by the engagement of teeth thereon with teeth on a stirrup h which is bolted to the axle-box and has fitting pieces k inserted between it and a shoulder i on the lower half bearing e. End thrust of the axle is transmitted to the axle-box in one direction by the collar b and in the opposite direction by the stirrup h. To adjust for wear between the collar band bush the stirrup h is loosened, a number of the fitting pieces k aving a total thickness equal to the wear are removed, the key g is rotated to take up the clearance and the stirrup is then bolted into position again.
