Abstract
361,650. Optical instruments. BARR & STROUD, Ltd. and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. Dec. 10, 1930, No. 37230. [Class 97 (i).] In an optical observation-instrument of the type in which the axis of the eyepiece is inclined to the line of sight and both are in the same plane, and erection of the image results from a single reflection in the plane of sight and crosswise reflection from the two surfaces of an oblique roof prism, the roof prism is extended at one end and directly associated with an objective and is extended at the other end to form a focal plane surface, or for the attachment of a field lens. In the form shown a compound objective 2 is cemented to the surface 4 of the roof prism and the face 8 of the prism is worked to the required curvature of the field lens when such lens is employed or it may be made flat or concave. Where reference marks are required in the focal plane a separate field lens may be cemented to a flat surface of the prism and the reference marks formed on whichever surface is more convenient. The distance from the eyepiece to the part 9 of the line of intersection of the roof surfaces is made sufficiently large to prevent this part being seen as an objectionable shadow in the field of view.
