Abstract
608,586. Telescope systems. KODAK, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1945, No. 2257. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1943. [Class 97 (i)] To ensure a flat field in a telescope, periscope or other sighting instrument an optical system including an objective with at least eight refracting surfaces and having a negative Petzval sum and over-corrected curvature of the field produces an image viewed through an eyepiece having a positive Petzval sum and under-corrected curvature of the field matching that of the image. The negative contribution to the Petzval sum of the objective system may be supplied by the objective or by an erecting lens system. Fig. 5 shows a sighting telescope in which both the objective 80 and erecting system 81 have negative Petzval sums, the image produced thereby being curved towards the eyepiece 84 as shown. Data are given. Specifications 608,583, 608,584 and 608,585 are referred to. The Specification also refers to a telescope comprising objective and eyepiece only. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the subject-matter of Specification 608,663 and also a sighting device comprising an objective, a field lens comprising two meniscus members of equal radii with their concave surface inwards, and a relay lens of the type described in Specification 608,663 producing a flat image in the field of view of the eyepiece. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
