Abstract

519,940. Monocular sighting instruments. BOCK, R. Oct. 5, 1938, No. 28924. [Class 97 (i)] A. prismatic monocular sighting instrument in which the line of sight may be diverted at an angle to its normal position without changing the position of the body of the instrument comprises a casing capable of insertion in a vest pocket &c. an eyepiece at one end of the casing, apertures or objectives respectively at the other end and at one side of the casing, a pair of doubly - reflecting prisms, and a movable reflecting element determining from which objective &c. light passes to the prisms ; a single objective between the reflecting element and the prisms may replace objectives at the apertures. As shown, objectives 3, 6, having axes at right angles, are mounted in a casing 1 having a framework 12 supporting doubly-reflecting prisms 4, 5, an eyepiece 2, and a pentagonal prism 7 movable along a slide 19 by an external finger-piece ; the position of the prism 7 determines which of the objectives is operative. The prism 4 is carried by a plate 10 movable, by a threaded rod 16 having a knurled head 15, for focussing. In a modification the objective 6 may be omitted and the prism 7 may be arranged in front of the objective 3.
