Abstract

1499755 Optical magnifiers MULLARD Ltd 14 April 1975 15205/75 Heading G2J A magnifier for binocular viewing comprises two eye-piece lenses El, E2 and a body B of refractive material having internally reflecting surfaces R1-4 which define two separate axes diverging from a common point in an object plane O (containing a real object or the output end of an image intensifier tube). The body B occupies substantially the whole volume of the two beams between the object plane O and the eye-piece lens L1, L2. The body B may be made from three pieces (as in Fig. 3) or moulded as a single piece of glass. The material of the body may be glass of R.1. equal to 1À7. The diameter of the object may be 18 mm and that of E1, E2 may be 10 mm. Angle 2# may be 28 degrees. A further reflecting surface may be included in the part of the body B which is common to both beams to allow the object plane O to be parallel to the line of sight through the eye-piece lenses L1, L2.
