Abstract

622,107. Prisms. SORDOILLET, P. March 13, 1946, No. 7882. Convention date, March 13, 1945. [Class 97 (i)] A glass prism is inserted between the object lens 12 and the eyepiece 18 of an optical instrument, e.g. field glasses, so that the light passing through the object lens is incident normally on the face 3<SP>1</SP> of the prism. After passing through this face undeviated, the light is reflected at an inclined flat face 4 on to a surface 3<SP>2</SP>, parallel to surface 3<SP>1</SP>, and is then directed on to the silvered portion 9 of a face 2<SP>1</SP>, which is parallel to the optical axis of the instrument and which reflects the light onto the silvered portion 10 of the face 2<SP>2</SP>. Face 2<SP>2</SP> is parallel to the face 2<SP>1</SP> and reflects the light on to a roof-shaped face 6 whereby it is reflected through surface 3<SP>2</SP> on to the eyepiece 18. The light rays thus avoid the central part of the prism, which may have a central cavity 19 to reduce the weight of the prism and to allow the insertion therein of a fixing member.
