574,750. Optical magnifiers. WATTS & Son, Ltd., E. R., and WOOD, A. W. Feb. 11, 1944, No. 2577. [Class 97 (i)] An optical magnifier for use in scale reading instruments comprises a glass or transparent plastic rod a having a plane surface a<1> at one end and a spherical or convex surface a<2> at the other end, the length of the rod being equal to the equivalent focal length of the combined optical surfaces a<1> and a<2> in the medium used. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the magnifier may be mounted in an externally threaded sleeve for focussing.
