Abstract

PURPOSE:To voluminously produce the optical fiber spherical lens aggregates of high accuracy by piercing a central hole in the cylindrical columnar enclosure part end face of a spherical lens and inserting and fixing an optical fiber therein. CONSTITUTION:A sphere 1 is inserted into the two-split dies forming a cylindrical groove of a diameter approximately equal to that of the sphere 1 composed of optical material such as TiO2 or Al2O3, after which glass, acrylic or the like is press-fitted from both sides of the cylindrical groove to form circular cylindrical enclosure parts 2, 3, thence the circular cylindrical enclosure parts 2, 3 are so polished with a center grinder as to become of the same diamter as that of the sphere 1, whereby the spherical lens 4 composed of the sphere 1 assuming a convex face lens and the circular cylindrical enclosure parts 2, 3 assuming concave face lenses is formed. Thence, a hole 5 reaching the surface of the sphere 1 is pierced along the centerline of the end face of the circular cylindrical enclosure part 2 by a laser beam means and an optical fiber 6 attached with a light matching material 7 such as balsam at its end is inserted into said hole. Its end is then bonded and fixed to the surface of the sphere 1. Thereby, the optical fiber spherical lens aggregate combined accurately with the optical fiber 6 to the spherical lens 4 is obtainable.
