Abstract

350,323. Lenses. ZEISS IKON AKT.-GES., 76, Schandauerstrasse, Dresden, Germany. Aug. 13, 1930, No. 24295. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1929. [Class 97 (i).] An objective comprising an air-enclosed meniscus component between two converging components is characterized in that the focal length, measured in glass, of the first converging component L<1> together with the first curved surface R<3> of the intermediate component, i.e. the distance PC, is less than the total focal length of the objective. The intermediate element is compounded and one or both of the convergent components may also be compounded. The first convergent component is made of larger diameter than the aperture of the objective to avoid vignetting by oblique rays. Numerical data are given for the example shown, having an aperture of f/l 6, and for another example, having an aperture of f/2, in which the intermediate element is a triplet.
