Abstract
595,647. Range-finders. BARR & STROUD, Ltd., and FRENCH, SIR J. W. May 30,1945, No. 13617. [Class 97 (i)] A short home base-finder has two eye-pieces, in one of which is formed a single image by light from one end of the base and in the other two images formed respectively by light from each end of the base. The instrument may thus be used for coincidence or overlapping observation with or without stereoscopic observation. Light from the left end of the base enters the eye-piece prism system at 34 and is divided by the semi-reflecting surface 19, half being directed to the left eye-piece by prism system A and the remainder via prism D and B to the right eye-piece. Light from the right-hand end of the base enters the prism B, which is of the type described in Specification 582,047, at 26 and forms an image either overlapping or separated from the other image. A shutter 25 on insertion permits the right eyepiece to be used for coincidence measurement, and the insertion of a shutter 24 permits stereoscopic observation. The eye-pieces are provided with stereoscopic scales and the images may all be erect or inverted or the image formed by the ray 37 may be opposite to the other two.
