Abstract
563,973. Optical Comparators. KNOWLSON, R. F., and DALL, H. E. March 19, 1943, No. 4496. [Class 97 (i)] A comparator for objects D, O, comprises an objective E having part of its field covered by a reflector C for rays from the object D, an erecting prism A between the reflector C and object D, a lens B in the path from object D or object O to compensate for the difference of length of the paths, and an eye-piece G, or a projecting lens system and projection screen ; a prism F may be provided to deflect the optical axis through 45 degrees and to erect and invert the image. The object 0 may be a form tool being ground, and the object D may be a scale drawing thereof fixed on a wall. Accurate superposition of the images may be obtained by means of adjustable arms supporting the instrument, a rotatable housing M for the prism A and a screw H for tilting the reflector C ; aperture plates L, N may also be provided.
