Classes 97(1) and 98(1) An optical-image finder includes an image forming system, and a biprismatic body located in the region where the image is formed and having its dihedral edge substantially perpendicular to the axial ray through the system, and focussing means for causing relative movement of the dihedral edge and the image parallel to the axial ray so that the image viewed through the biprismatic body appears duplicated unless the dihedral edge lies substantially in the image plane. Fig. 1 shows a biprism 4 on a support 6 slidable in a tube 7 adjacent the image plane of an objective 1 and an eyepiece 2 for viewing the image. The position at which the dihedral edge 5 coincides with the image is shown on a Scale II which may give directly the range of the object imaged. The biprismatic body may be employed in a reflex type camera and for this purpose may be carried on the plane face of a plane-convex field lens. Alternatively the objective may be moved to effect focussing and may be coupled directly to a camera objective. The biprismatic body may be of the form shown in Fig. 6 or may be in the form of a plane parallel plate wedge shaped at one end.
