Abstract
508,940. Eyepieces for optical instruments. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Prouty, M. W., and Kent, E. E.). Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27217. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXI] A telescopic sight for small-arms comprises a tube containing an object lens and two pointed sighting reticules extending from opposite sides into the field of vision at the focal plane and means for adjusting at least one of the reticules independently of the other both vertically and horizontally across the field of vision. In one form, Fig. 4, a pointer 46 is in one with a bent spring 64 carried by a frame 66 slidably mounted on vertical rods 70 in the tube 26. The frame 66 is adjustable vertically by a cam 72 in co-operation with a spring 68 ; and the pointer 46 is adjustable laterally by the cam 74. In a modification of this, suitable for range-finding, two pointers, side by side on a pair of similar springs on a vertically adjustable frame, are simultaneously adjusted laterally in opposite directions by a cam between the springs. In other modifications, the pointer is on a bent spring and adjustable in both vertical and horizontal directions by a screw, or in one direction by a screw and in the other direction by a cam. In another modification, a pointer is carried by a frame slidable horizontally in another frame slidable vertically in the telescope tube and the frames are adjustable by screws. In another modification, Fig. 18, a pointer-132 is carried by one end of a short inner tube 116 pivoted at its other end 118 to the telescope tube and adjustable by a screw 124 in co-operation with a spring tongue. In a modification, a ring carrying a pointer is mounted on U-shaped springs and adjusted by screws. The telescope tube may also contain a liquid level 80, Fig. 8, with a bubble 82 ; and a lamp 86 may be provided to illuminate the level and the pointers 44, 46.
