Abstract

360,238. Binoculars. BARR & STROUD, Ltd. and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. Dec. 9, 1930, No. 37050. [Class 97 (i).] In a binocular sighting-device comprising two parallel telescopes &c. with reference marks in the field of view and with variable interocular distance, in order to avoid alteration in the attitude of the reference marks when the interocular distance is changed, the mounting provides two points of support for the telescope which are separated laterally and guided to produce curvilinear lateral movement without rotation of the telescope. In the form shown the telescope B is fixed on the support 3 and the telescope A is provided with arms 4, 5 pivoted to a frame 8 the opposite end of which is pivoted at 9 to the support 3 an extension 15 of the frame being engaged by the adjustment screw 14. Rotation of the telescope is prevented by a link 10 pivoted at one end 11 to the telescope and at the other end 12 to the support 3, the points 7, 11, 12, 9 being at the corners of a parallelogram. A spring 23 prevents shake in the bearings. In another form the link 10 is dispensed with and instead a projection from the telescope engages in a curved guide the radius of which is equal to the distance 7-9.
