Abstract
360,234. Binoculars. BARR& STROUD, Ltd. and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. Dec. 6, 1930, No. 36815. [Class 97 (i).] In a binocular sighting-device comprising two parallel telescopes &c. with reference marks in the field of view and with variable interocular distance, in order to avoid alteration in the attitude of the reference marks when the interocular distance is changed, means are provided for imparting to one or both telescopes rotational movement equal and opposite to that ordinarily caused in the process of interocular adjustment. In the form shown, the frame carrying the telescope A is mounted on a pivot 7 about which it can be turned by a screw 16 to vary its distance from the fixed telescope B. To maintain unaltered the attitude of the graticule 3 in the telescope A, the telescope is mounted in bearings 5, 6 in its frame and is provided with a pin 8 pivoted to a link 9 pivoted at its lower end to a pin 10 carried by the fixed support 11. The points 13, 8, 10, 7 lie at the corners of a parallelogram so that as the interocular distance is adjusted the line 13, 8 remains in a fixed direction parallel to the line 7, 10. Other forms are described in which the rotational movement of the telescope is produced by spur &c. gearing, or by cams. Wear of the telescope A in its bearings may be reduced by a spring connected to the telescope and to a ring surrounding the pivot 7.
