Abstract
A fertilizer containing potassium sulphate and mono-, di-, or tricalcium phosphate is obtained by heating potassium chloride with phosphoric acid and calcium sulphate at say 500-800 DEG C., preferably in a current of steam. Hydrochloric acid is evolved. The phosphoric acid may wholly or in part be replaced by its ammonium salts, or ammonia may be passed into the reaction mixture, whereby ammonium chloride is evolved. Temperatures from 200-350 DEG C. are employed in this method. By suitably regulating the proportions of the reagents, an ammonium calcium phosphate is formed. The product may be admixed with substances such as urea, ammonium sulphate-nitrate, ammonium nitrate or phosphate or calcium nitrate. Alternatively, it may be lixiviated and potassium sulphate crystallized; the residue of tricalcium phosphate may be dissolved in the hydrochloric acid evolved. When however the products containing mono- and dicalcium phosphate respectively are leached, potassium phosphate and potassium phosphate and sulphate respectively are produced. Potassium phosphate may be recovered in the solid state.ALSO:A fertilizer containing mono-, di- or tricalcium phosphate or in some cases, ammonium calcium phosphate, and potassium sulphate is obtained by heating potassium chloride with calcium sulphate and phosphoric acid. Ammonia may be passed into the mixture, or ammonium phosphate may be added. The product may be admixed with substances such as urea, ammonium sulphate-nitrate, ammonium nitrate or phosphate or calcium nitrate.
