355,936. Sifting apparatus. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES, Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France.-(Assignees of Mieg, C. ; Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France.) Aug. 18, 1930, No. 24663. Convention date, Feb. 5. [Class 117.] The rotating drum 1 enclosing the beater in the apparatus for sorting and cleaning raw cotton prior to ginning described in Specification 355,855, [Group IX], is provided with two series of independent grating bars 2, 3 adapted to be set at different spacings. The wooden bars 2, 3 are fixed in metal strips 4 as described in Specification 355,934, the bars 2 being of uniform section throughout, the bars 3 being of greater section over the part 5 near the inlet for the cotton bolls. The casing 6 formed with a hopper 7 is divided by a plate 8, sand, stalks, leaves and other small impurities being removed through the part 5 of the bars 3 and collected in the part 10 of the hopper 7.
