355,935. Sifting apparatus. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES, Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France.. - (Assignees of Mieg, C.; Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France.) Aug. 18, 1930, No. 24662. Convention date, Feb. 5. [Class 117.] The drum 19 and rotary beater 1, Fig. 2, of the apparatus for sorting and cleaning raw cotton prior to ginning, described in Specification 355,855, [Group IX], are driven in opposite directions through chain and sprocket gearing. The beater shaft 5 is provided with fast and loose pulleys 3, 4, Fig. 1. A sprocket wheel 7 is keyed thereon and, through a chain 8, drives a sprocket wheel 14 in the opposite direction. The spindle 12 of the sprocket wheel 14 carries a second sprocket wheel 15 which, through a chain 16, drives a sprocket wheel 17 keyed on a sleeve 18 loose on the shaft 5 and which supports the end of the drum 19.
