Abstract

245,226. Prestwich, F. Oct. 17, 1924. Openers &c.-In a machine for scutching cotton &c. the material is fed by the roller m to a number of toothed large working cylinders a, b. A small cylinder c running in the contrary direction to the cylinder b clears the fibres from it and directs them against an adjustable comb e, whence they pass over the dust grid g to the collecting-cages h. Grids d are arranged under the cylinders a, b. The grid bars may be finely serrated and their ends may project into cavities formed in the side plates of the machine. A baffle plate f is provided. Air is drawn in at openings l. In an alternative arrangement an additional small working cylinder is arranged above the clearing cylinder c and runs in the same direction as the cylinders a, b.
