[Class 142 (i).] A card-saving device comprises two or more rolls 1, 2, 3 carrying pattern chains or cards and so mounted as to be brought successively into operation by the action of a cam disc 4. Cams 27 on the disc 4 act on spring-controlled levers 26 pivoted on a shaft 29 and connected at their upper ends to links 22 engaged by the upper ends of spring- controlled levers 18 pivoted to swinging frames 5, 6, 7 carrying the rolls 1, 2, 3. When a cam 27 engages a lever 26, the corresponding lever 18 moves to the right and a hook 18<1> is brought into the path of a rod 36 reciprocated vertically by its connection with a bell-crank lever 34 linked to a constantlyoperated T-lever 30. The rod 18 is thereby raised and, with it, the corresponding frame 5 which is held in the raised position by a weighted pawl 5b engaging a pin 11 on the frame 5. The frames carry hooks 5a so arranged that, on any frame being raised, a hook will engage beneath the tail of the pawl previously in action, thereby allowing the corresponding roll to move downwardly out of operative position.
