Abstract
371,083. Tensioning warps in looms. COTTON, R., 3, Lyndale Avenue, Hasling- den, Lancashire. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4515. [Class 142 (ii).] To obtain cover, the warp threads are divided by a stationary rod or bar F and by a control rod or bar G carried by arms g on the back rest D, which is oscillated by lever mechanism K, k, h and a cam H<1> on the bottom shaft. At the beat-up with the crank B at front centre, alternate warp threads are tensioned by the oscillation of the arms g and consequent lowering of the bar G at one pick, Fig. 4, and raising at another pick, whilst when the crank is at back centre the bar G is in a central position. The shedding is so timed that the shed is closed at the beat up and fully open when the crank is at back centre as shown in Fig. 3, thus allowing a maximum time for picking. In a modification, two stationary bars F, Fl, Fig. 7, are employed. In another modification, the movable control bar is carried by arms on the front stationary bar, and in another modification two bars G, G<2>, Figs. 10 and 10b, are carried by the arms g<1>, whereby both sets of warp threads are tensioned at the beat up, but one set more than the other. The Specification refers to a known method wherein the shed is open at the beat up and the healds are operated to strain the bottom of the shed.
