Abstract

354,377. Friction gearing. GODFREY, E. L., Woodchester Works, Woodchester, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, and COWBURN, F. C., 17, Welsh Street, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. May 9, 1930, No. 14261. [Class 80 (i).] A frictional epicyclic train comprises a spring- pressed sleeve b slidable on the central shaft a and having a point contact with each of the planetary rollers d. If a is the driving-shaft, the driven shaft is a hollow one supporting the rollers d. The sun gear f may be fixed to shaft a, as shown, or slidable under spring pressure as described in Specification 354,761. The drive is engaged by applying a brake o to an internal gear member g. The rightward thrust on the rollers d by presser sleeve b may be resisted by a floating ring h described in Specification 297,396, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.].
