Abstract

354,761. Friction gearing. GODFREY, E. L., Woodchester Works, Woodchester, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, and COWBURN, F. C., 17, Welsh Street, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. May 9, 1930, No. 14262. [Class 80 (i).] Epicyclic friction gearing comprises an outer race j with an annular abutment j<1>, a sun-member b upon a shaft a, conical rollers f between the members j, b, the rollers f engaging the abutment j<1> and an abutment y on the shaft, and means urging the sun member b towards the abutment y so as to force all parts into operative engagement. The means urging the sun member b axially may be a spring, or a series of springs c pocketed in openings d, and bearing against a flange e on the shaft. The rollers f have a groove f<1> to engage the abutment jl and are mounted on ball bearings g on spindles h carried by drums i, l, the drum i being supported so as to permit of axial movement by a ball bearing b<1>. Specification 354,376 is referred to.
