425,929. Change-speed and reversing gearing. BONN, C. R. H., 56, Gibson Street, Hillhead, Glasgow. Jan. 24, 1934, No. 2443. [Class 80 (ii)] In change-speed and reversing epicyclic toothed or friction gearing in which forwardspeed changes are effected by arresting alternatively planet-carriers such as 9<1>, 9<2>, means such as a sun gear 6<a> is provided incorporated in the train for reversed driving by which an additional forward speed is obtained. The invention is shown incorporated in the gearing described in Specification 420,731 in which cone brakes 9<1>, 9<2> &c. are thrust by oil pressure alternatively against a fixed coned casing 1 to effect forward speeds, and in which a cone brake 9 is similarly actuated to effect reversed driving. Pairs of interengaging planet pinions 17, 18 are supported on a carrier 13 fast on the driven shaft 3. The pinions 17 are rigid each with a pinion 7 meshing with the last sun gear 6 fast on the driving-shaft 2. The pinions 18 are rigid each with a pinion 19 meshing with an annulus 11 which is held fast when the cone 9 is braked during reverse. The sun gear 6<a> for the additional forward speed meshes with the pinions 19 and is fast on a loose sleeve 10<a> carrying a further cone brake 9<a> which is actuated alternatively like the others.
