353,809. Constructional ironwork. ELECTRICAL IMPROVEMENTS, Ltd., Carliol House, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and d MANN, F. A. W., 32, Victoria Street, London. Nov. 25, 1930, No. 35487. [Class 20 (ii).] A clamping device for L or T connections between flanged girders or the like comprises two brackets which engage opposite sides of the girders and are secured together by means external to the girders, at least one bracket comprising a flat plate having two of its edge portions projecting at right-angles to the plate and bent back again on themselves to form U-shaped jaws which are adapted to grip the flanges of the girders. According to one construction, in which two girders of H section meet at right-angles, two clamping devices of similar construction are employed. Each clamping device comprises two metal plates C, Figs 1, 2, and 3, each carrying two jaws D which embrace and grip the flanges A<1>, B<1>, of the girders A, B respectively. The plates C are drilled to receive bolts E by means of which the brackets of each device are rigidly secured together. Packing pieces F, preferably wedgeshaped, may be employed between the jaws D and the flanges to ensure a firm grip. For girders of channel or angle section the clamping device comprises one such bracket used in conjunction with a flat plate engaging with the back surfaces of the girders.
