Abstract

484,240. Railway rail joints. HAY LLAR, H. F. Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2633. [Class 104 (ii)] In a rail joint a block C of metal is welded to one side of the web of one rail B, and a similar block C<2> is welded to the opposite side of the web of the other rail A. Clamp plates D secured to the sole plate E and sleeper by screws D<4> engage the outer faces of the blocks C, C2 and the upper faces of the rail flanges, and have elbows D<1> engaging the ends C<1> of the blocks, so that each rail is prevented from creeping away from the other. The other flanges are secured to the sleeper by clamps D<2>. The sides of the rails not provided with the blocks are cut away to form a lap joint as shown in Fig. 2.
