383,720. Securing railway rails to sleepers. FOXLEE, R. W., PERCIVAL, B., and EDWARDS, J. A., 4, Millbank, London. Oct. 19, 1931, No. 29049. [Class 104 (ii).] A rail is secured to a sleeper 13 by means of a clip 17, the inner end of which engages the rail flange, while the outer end is free to move on the sleeper at right-angles to the rail. A wedging plate 31 engaging an abutment on the sleeper at its outer end has wedge surfaces 34, 35 engaging similar surfaces 36, 37 on the clip, so that when the plate 31 is forced down by the bolt and nut 30, 28, the clip is forced towards the rail. The inner flange of the rail is secured by a clip 18 and bolt 30 without the use of a wedge plate. By interchanging this single clip and the combined clip and wedge plate, the gauge may be adjusted. An additional adjustment is provided by making different the distances between the inner faces of the bolt holes in the clips and the faces which engage the edges of the rail flanges. The clips may be extended to engage the rail web or head.
