Abstract

375,906. Railway rail chairs. WALTEMATE, H., 2618, Market Avenue, East St. Louis, Illinois, U.S.A. April 13, 1931, No. 10830. Convention date, May 12, 1930. [Class 104 (ii).] A chair comprises a plate 9 having an integral jaw 10 on one side of its rail and a loose jaw 11 having an extension 12 guided between lugs 13 on the plate 9. The jaw 11 is secured by a wedge key 15 passing through the lugs 13 and through a slot 14 in the extension 12. The chair has a projection 16 fitting a hole in the sleeper and is secured by a strap 17 embracing the sleeper. Plates 20, 21 depending from the chairs and engaging the side of the sleeper are connected by bolts 25 through an interposed gauge washer 24. The jaws have sockets 27 adapted to register with holes in the rail web at the joints and to receive dowel pins 28 serving as fishbolts. In the case of a metal sleeper, the fixed jaw 10 and the lugs 13 are integral with the sleeper, and the movable jaw slides on the sleeper between the lugs.
