Abstract

353,644. Cooling engine pistons. McCULLOUGH, S. J., 7, Alfred Street, Belfast. June 23, 1930, No. 19040. [Class 122 (i).] To cool the pistons 4, 5 of a two-stroke-cycle internal-combustion engine, air is drawn into the cylinders 1, 2 on the upstroke through ports 7a, 9a, Fig. 2, passes through perforations 15, 16 into the pistons and through valves 19, 20 to the spaces 17, 18. On the downstroke the air is forced through non-return valves 21, 22 into a reservoir 6 from which it passes to the combustion chamber 3 common to the cylinders. One of the pistons has a lead over the other.
