Abstract

352,933. Rotary drying apparatus; roasting malt &c. PREMIX GAS PLANTS, Ltd. and DOCKING, A., York Mansion, Petty France, Westminster. March 14, 1930, No. 8315. [Class 34 (ii).] A rotating drum 3 for drying or roasting malt, grain or the like has several longitudinal heating tubes 5 communicating by radial tubes 6 with an outer annular chamber 7 which is preferably lagged. Gas for burners 4a disposed within the tubes enters by a hollow shaft 1. When block malt is roasted it may be wetted from a spray 13. A tube 9 surrounds the axle 2. The material is stirred by vanes 14, and steam escapes by gauzecovered openings in the ends of the drum. The material is fed and discharged through a peripheral opening having a sliding door. Samples may be withdrawn through an end opening fitted with an apertured rotary cover provided with bosses whereby it may be engaged by a rod on the frame to open it for one revolution and then close it.
