Abstract
In dry-cleaning in apparatus comprising a perforated drum rotated within a casing, the residual solvent is removed from the clothes or other articles by heated air, nitrogen, or carbon-dioxide which enters and/or leaves the drum, independently of the shaft, by one or more openings in an end wall or walls thereof. For example, air is admitted through pipes 3 <PICT:0405662/III/1> <PICT:0405662/III/2> and perforated ends 5 of the drum 2, and leaves through peripheral perforations and a pipe 4, passage of air round the drum being prevented by co-operating flanges 6, 7 on the drum 2 and casing 1. Or air may be admitted by a pipe 20, a chamber 22, and flared openings 19 at one end, and escape through corresponding openings &c. at the other. Or air is admitted through peripheral perforations towards one end of the drum, and escapes through a series of flared openings in the far side wall of the drum, these openings in turn being brought opposite an outlet pipe as the drum rotates. The drum may be divided into chambers by perforated radial partitions.
