Abstract

305,076. Weber, L. Oct. 27, 1927. Divided on 305,066. Air and gases, controlling temperature and direction of.-Hops are dried prior to the extraction of oils and resins by treatment either with air or alcoholized air at a temperature of from 70‹ to 90‹ F. and preferably at a pressure below atmospheric. The drying is effected in a still having perforate grids, into the space between which the hops are drawn by suction through an inlet b, and rotary stirrers e. The air passes through a heater 27 and pipes n, n<1> into the still and is withdrawn through the pipe o, condenser p and separator q to the inlet s<1> of a suction pump. The vapour generated is condensed in the condenser p and flows into the upper compartment of the separator and thence through the valved by-pass w to the lower compartment, the light oils being withdrawn through the pipe y and the heavier oils through the pipes' z. In a modification the hops are disposed in an enclosed rotary perforate drum. Specification 305,066 is referred to.
