Abstract
566,761. Cooling material discharged from kilns. TRAYLOR ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO. March 1, 1943, No. 3357. Convention date, July 21, 1942. [Class 51 (ii)] Apparatus for cooling lime, cement clinker, &c. discharged from kilns, comprises a number of rotary muffle tubes 1 partly enclosed in a drum 5 and cooled by air circulation and partly exposed to the atmosphere and cooled by water sprays. The tubes 1 are supported by front and rear headers 2, 4 and an intermediate header 3, the ends of the tubes being enclosed at the forward end by a compartment 7 formed by an extension of the drum 5 and receiving material discharged from the kiln and the rear ends being enclosed by a compartment 20 into which the tubes discharge provided with discharge shoot 23 sealed by a valve V. Material enters the compartment 7 from a discharge passage 8, 9 leading from the kiln and is directed into the tubes by vanes 7a. A blower 31 supplies air through a conduit 25 extending axially through the headers 3, 4 into the drum 5 and such air is directed in a tortuous course by baffles 6, 6a over the tubes within the drum, the air escaping in a heated condition through the conduit 24 and being utilized in the kiln or elsewhere. The parts of the tubes 1 exposed to the atmosphere and the air conduit 25 are sprayed with cooling water from a pipe 16. The drum 5 is rotated by gearing 29, 31 and supported on roller bearings 26. The compartment 7 is closed by an annular plate 12 and a hollow removable annular coverplate 13 supported on pivoted rods 14. Spring- pressed sealing rings are provided around the outer ends of the pipes 24, 25. The tubes may be air- and water-cooled at their forward ends and air-cooled at their rear ends.
