Abstract
351,716. Engine details. GARDNER, E. and GARDNER & SONS, Ltd., L., Barton Hall Engine Works, Patricroft, near Manchester. June 6, 1930, No. 17548. [Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi).] Valve gear.-In a horizontal Diesel engine, the rockers, a b, c of the inlet, exhaust, and starting valves respectively are actuated by push rods e, f, g from a vertical cam shaft m arranged in a housing k and geared to a lay shaft h. Similar vertical cam shafts on parallel cylinders of a multicylinder engine are actuated by a horizontal shaft u geared to the tops of the cam shafts. The starting-valves may be actuated by pull rods. Cylinders,. draining, and ports of.-The exhaust passage is arranged on a level with the lower side of the cylinder walls, so that any liquid collecting in the cylinder will be carried out with the exhaust. Fuel, supplying.-The fuel pump may be arranged in the housing k of the cam shaft, and operated by a cam working in an oil bath.
