Abstract

351,709. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. FRYE, J. D. and ANDREWS, C. 0. R., 47, Red Lion Street, High Holborn, London. May 31, 1930, No. 16897. [Class 39 (i).] In incandescentcathode R÷ntgenray tubes having a shield 22 surrounding the walls 10 of the tube to protect the operator from the rays and having a metal envelope 17 interposed between the electrodes 12, 13 and the walls 10 to prevent puncture of the walls, the shield 22 and the envelope 17 are completely insulated from each other. The tube described in Specification 331,043, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], with the metal envelope 17 connected to the anode or cathode is surrounded by a lead, iron or copper shield 22 of the same length as the envelope 17 and is held in the adjustable clamp described in Specification 339,392, [Class 44, Fastenings, Lock &c.]. The envelope 17 is of steel or iron and is insulated from the shield 22 bv the walls 10. Non-conducting tubes 21 closed by caps 23, 24 screw into the part 20 of the clamp. The envelope 17 may be insulated from the electrodes and then assumes an intermediate potential. The walls 10 are of glass or quartz.
