351,453. Reciprocating-pumps. HESSELMAN, K. J. E., Saltsj÷, Storõngen, near Stockholm. March 19, 1930, No. 8815. Convention date, March 22, 1929. [Class 102 (i).] Air, removing; regulating delivery by opening byepasses.-In a fuel pump for internal-combustion engines, air escapes from the pump chamber a by passages 15, 13 and a chamber 14, which may be connected to the top of the fuel tank 10, or to atmosphere. The escaping air does not come into contact with the fuel entering the pump through the inlet pipe 12. The delivery of fuel is regulated by a valve 6, which is opened by the plunger 3 during the delivery stroke, so that excess fuel escapes through the passage 15 to the suction side of the pump. In another form, the fuel tank is below the pump level and a second pump draws from the tank and delivers to the suction side of the pump 2. A loaded non-return valve may be arranged in the passage 13 or pipe 16 to put the fuel in the tank under pressure.
