Abstract
285,476. Phillips Volatilisor Syndicate Co., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Surface carburettors.- A surface carburettor comprises a container to which fuel is supplied under the control of a float 22, air being admitted through a conduit 19 to a chamber 20 immersed in the fuel and provided on its upper surface with perforations 21. The mixture formed passes through an opening 15 into a drying chamber 13 supported from the cover of the container 10 and connected by a conduit 14 to the engine intake. The chamber 13 is provided with a drain 17 and either with a series of baffles adjacent the mixture inlet 15 or with a conduit 16 extending nearly to the bottom of the chamber. Additional air may be supplied to the mixture in the container 10 through a: conduit 18 provided with perforations 28. The air inlet conduits 18, 19 may be provided with valves 25, 26 which may be interconnected. To prevent 'damage from back firing, the conduit 14 may be provided with a relief valve and with a back pressure valve 27, and a relief valve 29 may also be provided on the container 10.
