Abstract

351,370. Roller bearings. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.- (Timken Roller Bearing Co.; Denber Avenue, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Oct. 28, 1930, No. 32332. [Class 12 (i).] A single row self-contained conical roller bearing has an outer bearing cup 1 with an internal annular thrust rib 5 at the large end of the raceway, and an inner bearing cone 2 having an external annular thrust rib 7 at the small end of the raceway, the rollers 3 between the races 1, 2, having their large ends abutting the rib 5 and their small ends abutting the rib 7. The rib 5 is preferably undercut so that contact between the rollers and rib 5 occurs at two points, and the angle between the rib 7 and the race track on the inner race ring is obtuse so that the rib 7 contacts the rollers along a radial line. The rollers may be spaced by a cage consisting of rings 9 held apart by pins 10, the rings 9 having recesses 9a curved to conform to the roller ends. The rings 9 are slightly spaced from the ribs 5, 7, so that when the cage becomes worn it is guided by contact with the ribs.
