Abstract
407,272. Roller bearings. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.- (Timken Roller Bearing Co. ; Denber Avenue, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Sept. 27, 1933, No. 26567. [Class 12 (i).] In a taper roller bearing having raised parts 3, x at the ends of the inner race member 1 of larger diameter than the smallest diameter of the race surface, conical rollers 6 with enlarged recesses 16 in their opposite ends, and a conical cage with pintles 17, 19 projecting loosely into these recesses, the clearance between the pintles and the sides of the recesses is sufficient to allow the rollers to be moved radially outwards relative to the cage during assembly so as to pass over the raised parts 3, x. Fig. 1 shows a double-row bearing with the small ends of the rollers facing each other and separated by a guiding rib 3. The pintles 19 may be on the end ring 11 of the cage, but preferably are on a separate ring 18 spot welded to the ring 11 at 20. The ends rings 10, 11, which are joined by bridge pieces 12, have flanged parts 14, 15 respectively, closely fitting the bearing members. Separate thrust ribs 5 are provided. In one modification, a central guiding rib is formed on the outer race member, and in another, the rollers are separated by a floating ring. The invention is applicable to railway work where it is necessary to mount the bearings all from one end of the journal.
