Abstract
1,187,769. Bearings. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 30 May, 1967 [2 June, 1966], No. 24908/67. Heading F2A. A race ring of a roller bearing has an internal conical surface with a circumferentially-extending groove therein, the groove being adjacent the larger diameter end of the internal, conical surface and the raceway lying between said groove and the smaller diameter end of said internal conical surface. In an embodiment a flange-ring 10, Fig. 1, has one limb 11 received by a groove 8 in an internal conical surface 4 of an outer race 3 and has another limb 12 in contact with the surface 4. An additional groove 7 is provided in the internal conical surface 4 and is adjacent the smaller diameter end thereof; a flange-ring 9 having a limb 11 received in the groove 7 and a limb 12 in contact with the surface 4. The outer race 3 and an inner race 1 have rollers 5 therebetween; the rollers 5 are abutted by the flange-rings 9, 10; and a cage 6 is provided. In a modification, a flange-ring 16, Fig. 3, is substantially T- shaped. A stem of the flange-ring 16 is received by a groove 17 formed in an internal conical surface 20 of an outer race 18; a limb 19 contacts the surface 20; and another limb extends towards the larger diameter end of the internal Conical surface 20 and is spaced from the surface 20. The flange-ring 16 is retained in the groove 17 by means an annular deformable element 22 which is inserted as a tapered-ring into the space between the limb of the flange-ring 16 and the surface 20 and is then driven into position, a surface 15 on the flangering 16 facilitating the flaring-outward deformation of the element 22. In another modification, the larger diameter end of an internal conical surface 20, Fig. 4, of an outer race 18 is provided with a cylindrical bore 25. A groove 27 is formed in the bore 25 and receives a retaining element 30 therein.
