[Class 80 (i).] A transmission unit, particularly for driving an aircraft propeller, comprises a shaft in a stationary support driving a second shaft at an angle thereto in a support movably mounted on the stationary support, locking elements being disposed on the contiguous portions of the two supports for positively locking them in any adjusted position. A driving shaft 13 extends through a fixed housing 14 braced to the framework of an airship and has a bevel wheel 37 at its outer end gearing with a bevel wheel 40 on a propeller shaft 45 mounted in a housing 20 which can be turned in bearings 25 on the housing 14. Inclined roller bearings are provided for the bevel wheel 37 and the shaft 45 so as to take end thrusts. A worm wheel 66 secured to the housing 20 is engaged by a worm 68 mounted in bearings transversely across the housing 14 and this worm is driven by bevel gear from a divided shaft 80 when it is required to adjust the angle of the propeller shaft. The inner periphery of the worm wheel 66 and a stationary ring 89 in the housing 14 have correspondingly formed flutes 67, 95 which are engaged by projections on a ring 97 carried by a spider 98 which can slide along the shaft 13. A forked lever fixed to a shaft 108 enables the projections on the ring 97 to be moved into and out of engagement with the flutes 67 to release or lock the housing 20.
