423,542. Tractor wheels. BRUCHSEL, H., H³ttlingen, Mettendorf, Switzerland. Feb. 5, 1934, No. 3759. [Class 144 (i)] [See also Group XXXI] Retractible wheel spuds 43 of a tractor are disposed in staggered arrangement and slide radially through the wheel rim 45 between rubber blocks 44. Nuts 46 fixed to the spuds are engaged by screw shafts 47 connected by bevel gears 49, 53 to a shaft 52 co-axial with the wheel hub 48 and provided with a socket 54 for a handle. By rotating the shaft 52 the spuds are projected or withdrawn. In the case of a wheel having a solid driving- shaft passing through the wheel the shaft 52 is replaced by a sleeve mounted on the driving shaft and rotated by spur gearing when it is desired to adjust the spuds.
