Abstract
348,542. Switch for electricallyoperated windscreen wipers. LUCAS, Ltd., J. and MASON, S. A., Gt. King Street, Birmingham. Feb. 12, 1930, No. 4721. [Class 138 (i).] A switch operated in part by hand to close, and in part by the wiper mechanism itself to open, comprises a pair of pivoted main members a, b, the member b being pivoted at d to the member a. On the member a is secured a resilient contact blade e, and on the member b a blade f. The two contact pieces are suitably insulated and connected to leads g. The parts are interconnected by a coupling h containing a spring i which forms a toggle mechanism to hold the contacts together or apart. The free end of the member b is adjacent a cam m on a spindle n carrying a knob o, Fig. 4, This spindle carries the wiper arm (not shown) and is co-axial with a spindle p driven by the wiper mechanism, the two spindles being interconnected by a clutch q controlled by a spring r. Wiper arm and cam can be separated from the wiper driving mechanism by pulling the knob o. To start the wiper, a finger-piece c is depressed by hand, closing the switch a, b. To stop the wiper, the fingerpiece c is turned upwards. In this movement, the member b moves towards the cam, which revolves and breaks the switch.
